Bright Young Scholars (BYS) Terms of Use — R1 Discovery

Version R1.0 · Effective 2026-10-21

The service and these terms

Bright Young Scholars (BYS) is a concept/programme of BSquare Matrix LLP, a registered Limited Liability Partnership (LLPIN ACI-2363). Its registered office is 4/461, 2nd Floor, Valamkottil Towers, Judgemukku, Thrikkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala – 682021, India. These terms govern the Parent-mediated BYS Discovery experience at portal.by-s.org.

Effective date: 21 October 2026. Version R1.0. Please read these terms and the applicable Privacy Policy before confirming your Discovery request. If you do not agree, do not request access; you may contact BYS with questions.

Who may use Discovery

The account holder must be an adult Parent or legally authorised Guardian entitled to act for each linked learner. The current Discovery experience is designed for learners aged 7–17. A date of birth or a successful sign-in is not an approval of eligibility. BYS reviews each request and may ask for proportionate clarification of authority or suitability.

One Parent account can manage up to three linked learners in the current pilot. Each has a separate private profile and records. Children do not have an independent R1 login. Do not share your account with another family or allow anyone to represent a child without authority. Tell BYS when authority or contact details change.

Account creation is not Discovery approval

Email verification and password activation establish account access. Discovery requires the separate request, an explicit Parent/Guardian authority declaration, affirmative acceptance of the separately versioned Child Data Notice for each linked learner/profile, and BYS Admin approval. The approved start and end dates determine when protected Discovery functions are available. A future approval does not start access early.

Discovery belongs to the Parent account, not independently to each child. The temporary reference identifies that Discovery account context; it is not a permanent Learner Code or admission to a paid programme. A Discovery period is at most 90 calendar days in the current system. The dates actually approved are authoritative, including where the approved period is shorter. Discovery is optional; it is not a prerequisite for any future Access or Guided programme.

Renewal is not automatic, and prior participation does not guarantee another period. A further request and approval are required. Expiry or closure ends the relevant entitlement; it does not mean that historical records have immediately been deleted. Retention and completed closure are explained in the Privacy Policy.

What R1 includes

Discovery offers a Parent-supported introduction to BYS through private learner records, My Learning Journey, Books / Read & To Read, human-curated BYS Shelf resources and relevant BYS communications. Availability depends on the approved period, the selected learner and the permission required for that function. Informational Live Updates are distinct from paid or learning access.

My Learning Journey is a record of experiences and reflection, not a diagnostic assessment, guaranteed outcome, formal evaluation, ranking or Coin award. A Parent should preserve the child's own voice and clearly distinguish Parent observations. BYS may request clarification and may publish a reviewed version privately to the family, or decide not to publish. Final submissions and review/correction history are handled as traceable records.

BYS Shelf is a curated resource catalogue, not a shop. A suggestion does not require you to buy anything, guarantee a result or replace your judgement about a child's supervision and safety. Journals links are not currently available; any future external gateway will be identified separately.

No subscription fee for current Discovery

R1 Discovery is currently offered without a subscription fee. No payment is required to request or use it in this release. This is not a promise of perpetual free pricing. Any future paid offer requires separate information, applicable terms and an affirmative decision; Discovery does not automatically convert to a paid subscription. A family may consider any future Access or Guided offer without first taking part in Discovery.

Access, Guided, paid checkout, Coins, Challenger, formal evaluation and other future learning operations are not included or enabled by these terms. Any future paid programme will have separate pricing and applicable terms.

Safe and responsible use

Use accurate information, respect others and upload only material you have authority to share. Do not upload unlawful, abusive, exploitative or harmful material; unnecessary medical, identity or financial records; or another person's private information without proper authority. Do not attempt to access another family's records, bypass permissions, distribute credentials, upload malicious files or interfere with the service.

You are responsible for appropriate supervision of your child's offline activities and for assessing whether a resource or activity is suitable. BYS is not an emergency, medical, mental-health, diagnostic or crisis-response service. Seek appropriate local professional or emergency help when needed; do not rely on a portal message for urgent assistance.

Keep passwords and one-time links private. BYS staff should not ask you to send your password. Sign out on shared devices and report suspected account misuse through the published contact route.

Content and private review

You and the relevant rights holders retain ownership of submitted content. You give BYS the limited permission needed to store, display privately, review, technically process, correct through the documented workflow, make internal recovery copies and handle that content for the requested service and its lawful closure. This does not promise restoration of a particular record from a backup. It does not grant a general right to sell the content, use it in advertising, or publish it as a public learner sample or Journal article.

BYS and third-party resource owners retain their rights in their own material. Use resources for the stated personal/family learning purpose and observe any stated third-party permissions. Do not redistribute restricted materials or imply that BYS endorses content you publish independently.

Operational changes and account closure

BYS may maintain, update, restrict or suspend a function for safety, security, legal requirements, misuse or operational capacity. Where practicable, we will explain a material change or restriction and the next step. This discretion does not permit undisclosed charges, retrospective consent or interference with rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

You may ask BYS to close a learner's participation or the account through the published contact route. BYS will verify authority, distinguish the learner from siblings and address applicable review or legal-hold steps. The Privacy Policy explains how long information is reasonably required, how closure differs from entitlement expiry and how recovery copies are managed. The approved internal Portal Data Retention Policy / Retention Schedule governs detailed disposal periods. Closing a period is not the same as completed deletion, and closing one learner must not erase an active sibling's history.

Availability and limitations

Discovery is a developing educational experience. It does not guarantee academic results, a particular resource, continuous availability or suitability for every individual need. Human review is not a clinical or professional diagnosis. We will take reasonable care in operating the service, but outages and delivery delays can occur.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability or rights that applicable law does not permit us to exclude. Using a free service does not waive those rights.

Questions, complaints and changes

Contact info@by-s.org or +91 94953 38900 for account, service or policy questions and grievances. Grievance Officer: Vishnumaya. BYS will acknowledge and log a grievance, route and investigate it, respond within applicable legal requirements, and escalate serious or unresolved matters internally. Please do not email passwords, one-time links, learner documents or payment details as your initial enquiry. We will explain the appropriate process. Portal: https://portal.by-s.org. Operator: BSquare Matrix LLP (LLPIN ACI-2363), registered office 4/461, 2nd Floor, Valamkottil Towers, Judgemukku, Thrikkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala – 682021, India. This contact route is not an emergency service.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts having jurisdiction under applicable law. Contact BYS at info@by-s.org first if you have a service concern; this does not prevent you from using any lawful remedy available to you.

BYS will identify the version and effective date of revised terms and seek further acceptance where required. Earlier acceptance records will remain traceable. A future paid programme or materially different use of learner data needs its own applicable notice and approval.
