Bright Young Scholars (BYS) — Cookie and Essential Technologies Notice

Bright Young Scholars (BYS) is a concept/programme of BSquare Matrix LLP (LLPIN ACI-2363), a registered Limited Liability Partnership. Its registered office is 4/461, 2nd Floor, Valamkottil Towers, Judgemukku, Thrikkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala – 682021, India. This notice explains the browser technologies used to keep the current R1 portal working and secure. Read it with the R1 Privacy Policy when that policy is approved and published.
What the portal uses
Technology: bys_session first-party cookie Why BYS uses it: Keeps a signed-in Parent/Guardian or authorised Admin session connected to the right account. The cookie contains an unpredictable session token, not the account password. When it is used: After sign-in; removed or invalidated on sign-out, account/session revocation or expiry.
Technology: bys_enrolment_session first-party cookie Why BYS uses it: Maintains a short-lived, verified-email onboarding session so a Parent can continue the authorised Discovery account flow. It is not a payment or learning entitlement. When it is used: Only when that verification/onboarding path is open and an email verification succeeds; it expires or is cleared.
Technology: bys_csrf first-party cookie Why BYS uses it: Helps the browser prove that a state-changing request belongs to the current portal session, reducing forged requests. When it is used: When an authorised session needs request protection; cleared on sign-out or expiry.
Technology: Browser-tab session storage Why BYS uses it: Holds a randomly generated request key while a Discovery request is submitted. This helps prevent an accidental repeat when a button is clicked again or a page is retried. When it is used: In the current browser tab for that request; it is not a learner profile or a record of browsing for advertising.
Only essential authentication, session, security and required-function technologies are approved by default for R1. The listed technologies support account security, verification and reliable operation. If you block essential cookies, sign-in, account verification or saving an authorised request may not work. You can remove cookies through your browser settings; doing so may sign you out. The server also enforces account permissions: a browser cookie does not grant Discovery, Access or Guided rights on its own.
The current R1 application does not intentionally embed advertising or behavioural-analytics trackers. BYS does not use learner activity for targeted advertising. Analytics, advertising/tracking or other non-essential cookies are not approved by default. If BYS later proposes one, its purpose and any required choice must be reviewed and explained before use. External resources, if opened separately, may use their own browser technologies under their own notices.

For family-specific requests, BYS may need to confirm that you are the authorised Parent/Guardian before acting.
This notice is for R1 Discovery. Paid Access/Guided, BYS Pay, Coins, Challenger, Clinic and other future services are not made operational by this notice.
