Bright Young Scholars (BYS) — Parent/Guardian Consent & Child Data Notice

Who is asking for your choice?
Bright Young Scholars (BYS) is a concept/programme of BSquare Matrix LLP (LLPIN ACI-2363), a registered Limited Liability Partnership. Its registered office is 4/461, 2nd Floor, Valamkottil Towers, Judgemukku, Thrikkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala – 682021, India. The R1 portal is https://portal.by-s.org. The adult Parent or authorised Guardian manages the account. A learner does not have an independent R1 login.
Discovery is an optional, Parent-supported experience currently offered without a subscription fee. It is intended for learners aged 7–17 and is subject to BYS review and approval of a Parent-level Discovery period. It is not a prerequisite for any future Access or Guided programme. Account creation, email verification and a Parent's confirmation do not themselves grant Discovery access.
What information about a child may be used, and why?
Child information: Name, date of birth, relationship to the Parent/Guardian, linked-profile status Discovery purpose: Identify the right learner, distinguish siblings, understand age context and manage the Parent's authorised links. The Parent may link up to three learners in the current pilot.
Child information: My Learning Journey responses in the child's own words; separately identified Parent observations; optional photo and supporting PDF/image files Discovery purpose: Maintain a private, dated record of experiences and reading, support human review and, where approved, show a reviewed Journey privately to the family. Do not add another child's information or material you lack permission to share.
Child information: Books marked Read or To Read, with optional notes and dates Discovery purpose: Maintain the selected learner's private reading list across approved Discovery periods.
Child information: BYS Shelf selections for the learner Discovery purpose: Show resources selected through human BYS curation for that learner. A Shelf item is a suggestion, not a required purchase.
Child information: Discovery profile and period references, review actions and security records Discovery purpose: Manage access, explain decisions, protect the family account and preserve an appropriate record of who acted and when. The Parent's temporary TR reference is not a permanent Learner Code.
The shared public Shelf catalogue and fictional public samples are separate from a real child's private records. BYS will not treat a private Journey or photo as permission for public examples, Journals or marketing. The R1 experience does not use the child's material for targeted advertising, sell it, create a clinical or ability diagnosis, calculate a formal evaluation or award BYS Coins.
School, height and weight are not required for an R1 Discovery learner profile. Please avoid uploading identity documents, medical reports, payment information, sensitive family disclosures or other people's details unless BYS has specifically explained why they are needed and how to provide them safely.
Who may see it?
An authorised Parent/Guardian may select and see their own linked learner's private records. Siblings' Journey, Books and learner-specific Shelf selections remain separate. Authorised BYS personnel may see only the information needed for their assigned work; operational service providers handle limited data needed to host the portal or deliver essential email. A reviewed Journey shown inside the Parent portal is private family publication, not public website publication. Drafts and internal review notes are not a public learner profile.
Your authority and choice
Please proceed only if you are an adult Parent or Guardian entitled to act for each child whose information you provide. Before a learner profile is created or activated, the portal must ask for a separate affirmative declaration with this meaning: “I confirm that I am the Parent or lawful Guardian of this learner, or otherwise have lawful authority to provide and manage this learner’s information for BYS.” Verifying your email confirms control of that inbox; it does not, by itself, prove your age or your legal authority for a child. BYS may need an appropriate further check before permitting or continuing use. Tell BYS promptly if your authority changes or is disputed.
Before you choose to provide a child's information, please read the approved Privacy Policy, Terms and this separately versioned notice, and explain the experience to the child in an age-appropriate way. For each linked learner/profile, the portal must ask you to affirmatively accept the applicable published version of this notice before learner data is activated or processed through the R1 learner-profile flow. Neither choice is pre-checked or inferred from creating a Parent account. The minimum information needed for a linked profile is identified when you create it; optional Journey answers, a photo, files and Books notes may be omitted. If you do not provide information required to manage a child profile and confirm your authority, BYS may be unable to provide that learner's Discovery experience. Please do not put an adult's interpretation in a field for the child's own words without identifying who entered it.
You may ask BYS to correct information, discuss a disputed link, change communication choices, withdraw consent or request closure of a learner profile or Parent account. BYS will verify the requester's authority and explain what will happen to access and records. Withdrawal may stop the service that depends on the information; it does not automatically erase information BYS must retain for an operational, security or legal purpose. A closed Discovery period does not by itself complete a deletion request. The Privacy Policy explains the general retention and request process; no fixed-day deletion or backup-restoration promise is made here.
What this choice does not cover
This notice covers R1 Discovery only: the Parent account, linked learner profiles, private Journey, Books, Shelf, Live Update and essential service communications. BYS Journals are informational until an approved link is available. Paid Access or Guided, BYS Pay, payment, Coins, Challenger, Clinic, independent learner login, automated evaluation and mentoring/pathway operations are not included or authorised by this notice. If offered later, they will require their own applicable terms and choices.
